Advent Two: Prepare Him Room

Advent is a time for preparing, for making space (though as Tsh Oxenrieder says in her Advent book “Shadow and Light”, to be still, to make space is an almost subversive act our culture’s December).

I do pray that you might find some space today to breathe, to be still, to listen and to ask yourself the question, what might it mean for my heart to prepare room for the Christchild?

Much love and every blessing as you pray today

Lissy

PS: Here we pray with Isaiah 40:3-5. The whole chapter is worth your Advent meditation time!

Contemplative at Home offers guided meditative prayer – space to slow down and listen to the truth that is being born out of God’s love for you today – drawing on Ignatian spirituality and at times, Lectio Divina.

  1. Dear Lissy … gosh, this is good. Thank you. It reminded me of something I read only this morning by Frank Laubach (John Ortberg quoted it in his newsletter).”Day by day, moment by moment, Frank invited God in. God, would you walk with me now? Would you talk through me? Would you be with me even in the smallest tasks, the most trivial of actions.”

That’s what I want – make room for His presence in every moment. I’m realising how distracted a mind I have now and re-building my ability to focus to invite Jesus into as many moments as I can is something I want to work on with Him over the course of the next year. Your devotions help me do this.

    Grace and peace,

    Ian x

  2. Thank you so much , Lissy, for your ministry. I stumbled upon you 2 years ago and you have been blessing me ever since. I have shared your meditations with the 65 men who are a part of God’s ministry that I find myself leading!! Know that 65 men in Colorado are grateful to you for your obedience to produce your meditations and curate other great content.

  3. Ah thank you Jeff! Lovely to hear it and to have you here. Blessings on you and all you minister to ??

  4. Ian – the quote on my desk this week says this: “Lord Jesus, give me grace to live so near to thee that I may constantly find thee in prayer, in every detail of my life trusting thee and seeking thee” – A Saint Francis Prayer Book… I think I wrote this down about 15 years ago… I feel I am no closer to it today than I was then, though it perhaps means something different to me now? Like you, I hope to keep growing towards it. Blessings, friend.

I'd love to hear from you!
