Poem for the Third Sunday after Trinity

Today’s poem is How I Talk to God by Kelly Belmont. You can learn more about Kelly at her website, and you can read the poem here — you will have to scroll down, it is the fourth poem on the page.

We don’t have to find a special place for prayer. We don’t need to use a special language for
prayer. Anywhere and everywhere can be openings for connection with God. George
Herbert, a 17th Century Anglican priest and poet, describes prayer as “heaven in ordinary.” Here is Kelly Belmonte, a contemporary American poet, finding how “infinite connects with finite” at every moment of her day. I like that this poem shows us that even things we think of as interruptions and the general clutter of our day can be prayer, if we experience them with God.
